Meda has been selected from more than 2128 charitable organizations across the country to compete in Brackets For Good 2018. Starting Friday, March 2, Meda will rally supporters to advance in an online single-elimination bracket-style fundraising tournament with a grand prize of $10,000.
Meda’s mission is to help minority entrepreneurs succeed through business development services, access to capital and access to government and corporate opportunities. Our vision is to have thriving communities through equal economic participation. This can be achieved through minority entrepreneurs, Meda services, and community support. We provide one-on-one business consulting, access to capital, and connections to market opportunities for minority entrepreneurs in Minnesota. Through these services, minority-owned businesses can become sustainable employers that create quality jobs with livable wages and health care.
Indianapolis-based Brackets For Good pairs with corporate and nonprofit sponsors to host online bracket-style fundraising tournaments in philanthropic communities around the United States. Brackets for Good has raised more than $6.4 million for charitable nonprofits since its 2012 kick-off contest in Indianapolis.
Participating nonprofits rally enthusiastic donors to out-fundraise their opponents in order to advance. Through the excitement, localized marketing and corporate involvement, nonprofits earn increased exposure, gain access to free fundraising tools, and are introduced to new donors. Dollars from donors translate to points, giving participants the opportunity to advance in each markets’ bracket. Competing nonprofits keep donations received during tournament play, no matter how many rounds they advance. The winning organization in each tournament receives an additional championship grant.

Meda was founded by a group of Minnesota business leaders who saw minority business ownership as a positive, long-term response to rising economic inequity within minority communities in our state. Our founders believed that supporting the creation and development of minority businesses was a positive, achievable and market-based approach to create wealth in Minnesota’s communities of color and provide equal economic opportunity. The founding purpose is reflected still today in our vision of “thriving communities through equal economic participation” and our mission of “helping minority entrepreneurs succeed.” Meda provides access to capital, business development services and corporate and governmental market support for minority entrepreneurs. Since our founding, Meda has helped launch more than 500 minority businesses and assisted more than 20,500 Minnesota minority entrepreneurs to become business owners. Meda operates a $17.5 million Community Development Fund Institution (CDFI) that provides needed capital for minority businesses to become sustainable. Meda is also the host organization for the Minneapolis Minority Business Development Agency (MBDA) Business Center which has been recognized as the top-performing MBDA center two years running.
